2008年11月,深圳加入联合国教科文组织全球创意城市网络,并被授予“设计之都”称号,这是中国第一个、世界第六个获此称号的城市。此举标志着深圳从生产型的城市向着创意型的城市转变。
In November 2008, Shenzhen joined UNESCO's Creative Cities Network and was granted the title of "City of Design." It is China's first and the world's sixth city to gain the title, which acknowledges that Shenzhen has transformed from a production-oriented city into a creative city.

In the spring of 2010, a huge painting created by 507 painters and featuring an iconic trademark charming smile stunned visitors at the Urban Best Practices Area of the Shanghai World Expo. "Dafen Lisa," the giant replica of the "Mona Lisa," reflected the legend of Dafen Village and impressed visitors from home and abroad.
大芬村,一个原住居民300多人的村民小组,占地面积0.4平方公里。上世纪80年代末,商品油画在这里自发萌芽,发展成为国内外知名文化品牌。大芬油画村拥有企业40多家,以油画为主的各类经营门店800多家,形成了年产值超过4亿元人民币的油画产业基地。被文化部命名授牌为国家“文化产业示范基地”,是全球重要的商品油画集散地之一。
Dafen Village has more than 300 inhabitants and covers just 0.4 under half a square kilometer. At the end of the 1980s, the oil painting trade in oil paintings began in the village, which later became well-known for cultural productions both at home and abroad. There are more than 40 painting companies and 800 shops in Dafen, which has become an oil painting production base with an annual output value of 400 million yuan. Dafen Village has been named by the Ministry of Culture as a national cultural industry base and is also one of the distribution centers for the global oil painting trade.

Like Dafen Village, Tianmian Village regenerated itself thanks to the creative industries. Now the village is known as China (Shenzhen) "City of Design" Tianmian Creative Industrial Park. On the world stage of the "City of Design," Tianmian has many glamorous labels: a core carrier for building Shenzhen into a city of culture and city of design; and a key platform for important projects in Shenzhen's 11th Five-year Plan, Shenzhen's significant construction projects in 2007 and the three-year plan of Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation Circle in industrial design.

Tianmian Park, which was built at the site of 10 old factories, has been hailed as the No. 1 parkPark for Chinese industrial design, housing the most cutting-edge domestic industrial design enterprises.
